Please Help!?
I need help please this is a homework question of mine but I don't understand it at all....
The differential diagnosis of this newborn's apnea was thought to be related either to infection or intracranial hemorrhage as a result of trauma.
In your own words, explain the medical status of the newborn.
Ok, I do not like doing anyone's homework
because that means they were too lazy to
find out for themselves. But just in case you
can't find the answers, I will be nice to you.
bottom line: the newborn is probably not going to make it. the baby has apnea which
means it stops breathing for a certain amount of time and may stop indefinitely.
The REASON: They state infection (I don't understand the infection part unless the
baby had a high fever caused by the infection OR intracranial hemorrhage which
would be unstoppable bleeding in the brain
caused by a trauma...that's a very loose
definition. Any hit to the head accidentally
or on purpose, could have caused this.

Sleep apnea in babies...?
Does anyone have any information about sleep apnea in babies? I have a feeling my daughter may have this, i have looked at some web sites about it but would like to know from anyone who has had personal experience.
Im a little concerned about going to my doc as im sure he already thinks im a neurotic mother, lol
I would like to know what symptoms your baby had other than the stopping breathing?
What did you say when approaching your doctor about it?
What did the doctor do to determine whether it was sleep apnea or not?
Thanks
m not 100% sure that she actually stops breathing but she takes a sudden deep breath in sometimes which can indicate that they may have for a few seconds!??

I looked up a couple websites that seemed they might help you.
Infants also are prone to irregular breathing because their brains aren't fully developed yet. Sometimes this can make them breathe faster and slower (or seem like they take a sudden deep breath). This is normal for a lot of babies and will decrease in frequency with time.
They do make breathing monitors - if you're still concerned you can look into buying one of those for her. : )

For a diabetic patient with bad vision and hearing you: a) order insulin and syringes;?
b) teach her to use magnifier; c) have large size educational materials; d) all of the above
I would suggest AGAINST using a magnifier on syringes. Because of the distortion, it's very difficult to get an accurate dose.
Basically, blind and low vision diabetics have two options.
A: use syringes with a blind-friendly count-a-dose, which is difficult to find but very helpful with you can. These, unfortunately, only work with 100 unit syringes,.
B: use an insulin pen, as these are usually completely blind-friendly.
Again, I do not suggest using a magnifier on insulin syringes. The distortion + the limitations of your vision, causing you to inject even 1 extra unit of novolog, can drop healthy glucose into dangerous ranges.. and that's a real risk you take!
Re the ordering syringes and insulin.. unless for another reason they have difficulty traveling (ie, they're very elderly) do NOT do it for them. It's saying 'you aren't even independent enough to manage getting to a pharmacy or ordering on line'- which every deafblind person without major cognitive impairment SHOULD BE capable of doing.

do I have diabetes!!?
I went for a regular physical and the doctor called and told me that my blood sugar was low. It was 50, so she wanted to test it again. The blood was taken in the morning and i hadn't eaten breakfast but she said it still shouldn't have beem below 80 at my age. I'm a thin, 22 year old female. No one in my family has diabetes except for one cousin. He has type 1. Could I have diabetes?? I thought adults only got it if they were unhealthy??!! I thought diabetes was high blood sugar but she kept asking if there was any history of diabetes in the family. I get the results in 3 weeks but would love if someone had some advice now!
You may have a form of diabetes called "hypoglycemia" (aka low blood sugar). That may mean that your body is mis-interpreting signals and producing too much insulin for your sugar levels. The best way to combat that is to eat protein so that your body stops producing extra insulin. Do you eat enough protein?
You do NOT have the normal "adult onset" diabetes (Type II). If you did, you would have high blood sugars as a result of an overworked pancreas.
Am I eligible for benefits/allowances?
I am a 17yr old resident of London who is living with their parents. I quit school due to bipolar disorder and diagnosis of diabetes. I am recovering and am aiming to get into an apprenticeship.
Until now I have realised my older sister (who is the only worker in the house - my parents are retired), she was paying for my rent all these weeks (I quit 6 months ago). The rent amount is £25 per week.
Am I eligible for any allowances from anywhere? I am not the person that likes to rely on benefits, but I need to now because I have no income; my apprenticeship starts another 6 months later. I couldn't mind getting a volountary job right now but it doesn't obviously pay.
I was reading "housing benefits" but I need to know what local authority means, is it my working sister or parents? If I live with them i am not eligible for it.
Read the replies so far and the simple answer is no. You cannot claim income support as you are not estranged from parents. You cannot claim job seekers allowance as you are under 18 but you maybe able to claim disability living allowance. Go to the direct gov website and apply
We did not want to find out the sex of our baby, but I'm not sure if the nurse may have slipped?
I went for my 34 week check-up. I met with a different nurse and OB, since mine was away this week. The nurse checked my weight, and she was aware that i did not care to know how much i gained (since i have gained 58 pounds so far). After she checked my blood pressure, she said "so a little baby girl" - I than said, i have no idea, and asked her if she new for sure - she said no, but made reference that she gained 70 pounds each with both her girls. Not sure if she was trying to cover it up. Anyhow, the OB came in (which was actually a student OB), and nurse was gone - she checked the baby's heart rate (which was between 130-140), positioning of the baby, etc. She asked me if it was a boy or girl and I told her i don't no, but to look in my chart and let me know. I than asked if she new (she said no). she checked my charts even said that she did not have the ultrasound reports in my folder and could not find the sex. Not sure if the nurse new for sure? i gained 10pds in 2Weeks
For this reason, my doctor's office puts a giant neon colored note on the front of your medical folder that says "Does not want to know the sex" so that another doctor or nurse in the practice won't accidentally let it slip. Was the technician able to tell the sex at your ultrasound appointment?...sometimes they aren't, and the baby's sex never gets recorded in your folder (which sounds like what happened) and if you asked to know the sex, and the doctor said it wasn't in your folder, then it wasn't. The nurse may have just made the comment based on your weight gain...especially if she experienced the same type of weight gain and delivered girls. I know one of my doctors (I didn't find out the sex either) at one of my very last appointments was checking the baby's heartrate and said "That is an active little boy you have there" and I freaked out...I was like "I am having a boy" and the doctor said I don't know, are you?...and I said that I had not found out yet, and the doctor just assumed I was having a boy based on the way that I carried, etc...I think even the doctors and nurse's fall into that old wives tale stuff....but anyhow, all of the wives tale stuff was wrong for me because everything, even the chinese gender chart, said I should have had a boy, but I delivered a beautiful baby girl. And you just never can tell, it is all in how your body carries the baby, I didn't have an ounce of sickness and only gained 20 pounds my whole pregnancy and still delivered a 7lb 4 oz girl! Good Luck and I believe you are safe in assuming the nurse was just commenting to make conversation.
