Prenatal glucose test....?
Okay, so I'm going to go in the morning for the glucose test and this is going to sound really weird but I have this INTENSE phobia of having my finger pricked with one of those little diabetes monitor things. I can handle shots, IVs, giving blood, and piercings NO PROBLEM! I can even watch as they draw my blood and it doesn't bother me, but I get super super worked up about having my finger pricked. I am freaking out about tomorrows test because I'm not sure how it goes, I know you have to drink the glucose drink, but do you have to get your finger pricked before hand or do you just drink the drink, wait an hour and then get your blood drawn from your arm?
P.S. Please don't make fun of me, I don't expect anyone to understand but I've been terribly afraid of having one of those little machines poke my finger since I was very young. I hate it, and I'll throw a fit before I let anyone do it.
I was not pricked in the finger for my glucose test.
I don't think it has anything to do with a diabetes test strip or anything.
As far as I am informed, they just test your blood.
With saying that, they just draw blood from the vein in your arm.
This is my personal experience, but things could be done differently in your state.
I don't think you have anything to worry about, really.
My test went as follows:
Got to the lab,
had to drink the liquid in 5 minutes or less
(yes, they time you. The liquid tasted like a really sugary sprite to me.)
waited an hour in the waiting room.
(You can not sleep, or leave the lab while processing your one hour.)
when the hour was up, she took me to the back and drew like 6 viles of blood from my arm.
After she drew the blood I was allowed to leave,
and got the results later.
I don't think you have anything to worry about as far as the finger pricking, I think you just have diabetes testing stuck in your head.
Good luck. : )
