How long does Feline Diabeties take to develop in Cats?
I had my annual blood work done for my Cat in January, which came back perfectly fine/normal. I was told at the time she needed to have her teeth cleaned/a couple removed, but the price they quoted was too expensive. I subsequently took her to a different vet two months later who ran tests at the same time as doing the teeth - results came back as very severe diabetes. I figured they must have been wrong, because I had taken her to a reliable vet 2 months earlier.
In the past few weeks I took her to yet another vet who has confirmed my cat does have diabetes.
Therefore, I want to know, how long does diabetes take to develop? Surely she could not have developed SEVERE diabetes in 2 months. I believe my original vet did one of the following:
-mixed up the test results
-used faulty testing equipment
-lied & did not conduct any tests.
Thoughts?

It can develop and get serious that quickly. Did you notice symptoms? Excessive drinking, peeing? Was your cat eating alot and losing weight?

If you are not testing the bg's you need help in learning how to treat this disease,correctly it's that simple. Are you testing for ketones? Know about neuropathy and rebound?

An eating disorder is by far the most likely explanation. Even if she swears blind she is eating, even if you are sure you are 'seeing' her eat. Get her help asap.

Why would I keep going breathless?
A few times a day, I get quite breathless. I stopped smoking 8 months ago, am 43, and about a stone over weight for my size. I have had an ECG a few months ago, showing nothing abnormal, and last week I had a small operation, and when I was still hooked up to the heart, pulse and blood pressure equipment, I went breathless. If anything was wrong with me, would it have shown up on the monitor?

Breathlessness may not necessarily be connected to your heart. As the emergency doc said though, the monitor you were on is likely only to be doing a basic check of your heart. so no, it would not not necessarily have shown up. You said you did and ECG, and this was fine, so it looks as though your heart is ok. When do you get breathless? If it's when doing exercise or exerting yourself then it could be heart related (your ecg would need to be taken when walking on a treadmill to test this instance). it could also be related to your smoking. Were you a long term and/or heavy smoker? Do you have a active lifestyle? Your lungs may be showing signs of damage if you have smoked a long time or been a heavy smoker. Take the above advice, get a lung function test or ask your Doc to test your Peak Flow (its a test asthmatics use). If your breathlessness comes on with no apparent pattern, then it could be panic attacks and your worrying about it being serious and heart related will only make matters worse.
Try more exercise and this seems way out there, but there are things you can buy to train your lungs to be fitter. A lot of sports shops sell them - its a device you blow into. Or take up playing a wind instrument like trumpet, saxophone or bagpipes!!!!

Please someone help me with Blood Pressure question?
I run approximately 40-50 milles per week and everytime I check my blood pressure it is usually around 135-140 systolic and 60-70 diastolic...Is this normal? Sometimes it reads 137/62 like last night...Is this a safe blood pressure? I have heard the bottom number is lower in athletes...But that is a huge difference in top and bottom numbers
Blood pressure varies from person to person, but the general consensus is that it shouldnt be outside the values of 140/90. So, you are within these ranges, but i would check with your doctor or practice nurse if you are concerned. There is supposed to be a difference between these two numbers so dont worry.

What can a Diabetic eat?
I was recently diagnosed with Diabetes and put on Metformin (generic for Glucophage). Since my doctor was on vacation when my results came back, I met with a Diabetes nurse who gave and taught me how to use the machine. The script was issued by a standby doctor. The nurse told me to stick to browns - like whole wheat breads, pasta and brown rice. I thought I can eat cherries but she said no. Please tell me what I can and can't eat - especially in the fruit department. I do love veggies too. Also I do not eat any seafood or poultry at all and never did. Thanks.
Pretty much anything, as long as you're watching your carb intake.
Can't eat cherries? PAH! Just do a little research and figure out the carb content of the things you eat. You should have some guidline as to how many carbs you should be eating a day. Watch how different foods affect your readings and if something affects it adversely, cut down and don't eat so much of it.
Also, I would definitely recommend taking a diabetes education class and consulting with a dietitian. Both of these are a huge help in managing your diabetes. They really helped me a LOT!
