What are the rules in Europe to dispose used insulin syringe needles insulin pen needles & lancets?

How to dispose used needles used by diabetics to inject insulin. Are there specific rules applicable in europe
Can i just throw the used stuff in the thrash bin

I surveyed some american government websites which states that one can pack the used stuff in strong plastic or metal container seal with duct tape & throw in thrash can

Please inform
Thanks

I know of no Legal process for disposal, (which does not infer that there is not a law referring to their disposal) but you would be advised to hand them in to the local pharmacy or hospital. Some people make a 'living' from searching through trash / rubbish bins (totting).
Alternatively, you could request a 'sharps' box - which are used in hospitals and clinics - and they cut the needle off the syringe and the body of the syringe is then disposed in the box.
Hope this helps

Get outdoors throughout your lunch break, discover a patch of green, some flowers, even wander around a backyard heart! Lose your self in nature and feel your tensions dissipate, for a while at least.

Hyperthyroidism in cat and radioactive iodine?

My vet called today and said he thinks my cat has hyperthyroidism. The kitty already has diabetes and gets
insulin shots.

He howls a lot at night sometimes and this fits the description of this disorder as well.

The vet says there are medications that can be given to him, but I read on the Internet that there is some type of radioactive iodine treatment that can be given that cures 95 percent of cats with this problem.

Does anyone know anything about this, like how much it costs?

The vet is running another test on the cat's blood Monday to see for sure and I can ask him more then.

I don't mind taking my cat to a specialist if it will help his problem.

Personally I would say that it depends on how old the cat is before determing whether or not to do the radioactive iodine. I don't think it's a good idea to do this on a cat that is in it's early teens because there could potentially some kidney issues that are not detectable. The Radio-iodine procedure can be hard on a cat's kidneys and they advise not doing the treatment on cats with kidney disease.

When cats go for the treatment they usually stay at the clinic for a week I believe. Upon return home you aren't supposed to cuddle with them for a week and you have to be careful about their waste products be they are radio-active initially.

Most people treat their cats who are hyperthyroid with an oral medication called tapazole (your kittie's condition would have to be stabilized wtih medication before they would do the Radio-iodine treatment).

Just a note -- it's not uncommon for cats who are going deaf to howl as well.

The most significant tip anybody can give you about getting pregnant is when you ought to have sex.  Many women ask themselves why I cannot get pregnant.  Today many women think they will get pregnant the first month they're going off the tablet, unfortunately this is just not the case.  For many ladies it takes over a year to conceive.

To get pregnant you need to be sure you are having sex at the top of your ovulation cycle.  Having sex around your ovulation cycle will hugely increase the chances of becoming pregnant.

There are several strategies that you can use to ascertain your ovulation cycle.  The handiest way for judging the top time to become pregnant is an ovulation kit.  An ovulation kit helps you chart your body's temperature, charting the precise time of peak fertility is the key to falling pregnant.

Many women also use an ovulation calendar that charts the days since their last period.  The ordinary cycle for a ladies is 28 days, 14 days is the top of the ovulation cycle for most women.

Many couples believe the key to getting pregnant is to have intercourse all of the time.  This is a bad concept.  When a person has sex all of the time he reduces his sperm density and will basically have a lower the possibility of fertilizing the women's egg.  When trying to fall pregnant it's great concept to have sex 3 times a week during the girls peak ovulation cycle.

It is not a great idea for the man to save up his sperm purely for the single shot of fertilizing the female.  Over time sperm that is not used can become dozy and slow.  It is best to have sex 2 to 3 times a week to keep the sperm fresh and give the sperm the best chance to reach the women's egg.

The best chance to get pregnant is to have sex a few days before, during and after the women's top ovulation cycle.  Spacing out the times you have sex will give the ladies best chance to fall pregnant.

Most couples actually don't get ovulation cycles and the timing concerned in conceiving a kid.  For a non systematic system you might want to try having sex every other day for a month.  This could keep the sperm count high and increase the likelihood of falling pregnant and having the baby you have always dreamed of.

I'm looking to purchase a quality cheap compression stocking or diabetic sock?

I've purchased Jobst, Sigvaris and Mediven. I'm looking to try ALEVA, Therafirm or Juzo. I shop www.foryourlegs.com, their staff is always knowledgeable and courteous and everything ships for FREE. Are the high priced stockings like JOBST worth the hefty price tag? Has anyone tried the Aleva brand? All feedback welcome! Thank you all.

I've been a Jobst customer for years, then I heard about the Aleva brand and I was curious to see how the quality compared. I'm not one to always buy the cheapest because I believe you get what you pay for, but these Aleva socks are just as good as Jobst and the price is just right. I would say comparatively speaking, Aleva is right in the middle of the road with it's cost, but the quality is top notch.

water retention?

I went on vacation to Disney world for a week and during that time my feet and anlkles swelled up from what I thought was a lot of walking. When I got back home I went to an urgicare clinic to make sure that I ad not injured my ankle or something and they did an EKG and chest xray and seemed really unconcerned about the fact that I did a lot of walking. They said that my chest xray looked OK and he did not go into the details of my EKG, but I did see on the sheet that it said enlarged left side ventricle. He put me on a "water pill" and told me to follow up with my DR within a couple of days. Of course my DR can't see me for like a week. Should I be freaked out about this? My blood pressure was like 146/96. My blood oxygen was 98%. I have been taking this pill and lost like 12lbs in a couple of days. I missed a dose this weekend and I immediately noticed a gain back in water.

I am just curious if I should be freaked out, because I can't see my Dr until friday?

I wouldn't freak out so much at this point, but I would be sure to keep your appointment with your family physician to follow up. Sometimes on vacation, your diet habits change and you take in a little more sodium than usual, and you can retain fluid easily.

Your family doctor should recommend an echocardiogram, or ultrasound of your heart to make sure your heart functions normally and is nice and strong. This can also view your heart valves to make sure they aren't leaky or tight (work properly). It can measure the walls of your heart to see if they are enlarged. (If he/she doesn't order an echo, ask for one!)

Have you had any other symptoms besides the swelling? Do you get short of breath easily? Is it hard for you to lie flat at night? Do you have chest pains? Are you on blood pressure medicines? Are you diabetic? Smoker? Family history of heart problems? These are all things they should ask when you go for your follow up.

Otherwise, be compliant with your water pill in the mean time. Weigh yourself daily, and keep your follow up! Good luck!

Heart disease fact sheet

Heart disease fact sheet

Heart disease fact sheetAngela's storyIn 1991, I went to the ER with chest pains twice in one week. They said it was ulcers (bleeding in the stomach). Then the pain became very intense. Again, the ER said there was nothing they could do. I refused to leave and was admitted for observation. Later, the doctor on duty saw my EKG and asked, "Where's the 34-year-old who had the massive heart attack?" I...

My father died and I sent in all necessary paperwork to his life insurance company 24 bus. days ago, how much?

longer do I have to wait for the payout? I have been in contact with them constantly and they keep telling me it is being examined, etc. His policy was started about 15 years ago. His death certificate stated his reason for death as "complications from alcoholism and diabetes." Should I be worried about anything? What steps should I take?
I've been told, maybe incorrectly, that if the policy is passed the two year cutoff they can't deny based on misinformation. Is this correct?

There is nothing for you to do. You have to wait for the settlement. They may try to deny the claim if your father lied on his application. If that happens you will need to get an attorney.

Additional Details

You have received incorrect information. If there was material misinformation or intent to fraud there is no 2 year limit. If the insurance company denies the claim and the value is enough to warrant it, you should hire an attorney to help.
